Question by Andrew W: What is string betting and how is it preventable?
I read up on it but still don’t exactly understand what the differences are between string betting and normal betting (raising, etc). Can someone put it in more simpler terms so I can understand it better? And what exactly is so wrong with it that makes it illegal?

String betting in poker is when a player places an amount of chips in play, and AFTERWARDS either puts more chips into the pot or announces another raise.

To avoid string betting, first announce that you are going to raise, either “raise, xxx more,” or “raise, xxx total.” Verbal is always binding, but not when you put chips in play first. You cannot string bet online, for obvious reasons.
