They analyze, historically, how the teams have played against each other. They also give appropriate weight to which team has home court, how the other team plays on the road, injuries to both teams (if any), the types of offense and defense both teams employ, how each team has reacted to similar offenses and defenses throughout the season, and a lot of other factors. They can make a lot of money if they are good at it.
