What if you had participated in a gamble that involved betting your life (literal meaning), and you signed a contract and everything. Would it be illegal, and what laws would it break?

I don’t think there would be anything illegal about making a bet like that.
It would be COLLECTING the bet that would be impossible without breaking the law. How would the loser “pay”? Someone kills him? Illegal. Suicide? Illegal, plus it’s at that moment that the “winner” could be accused of some sort of manslaughter.
It just couldn’t happen.
