How does the bookie have an advantage? How and why do the lines change?

The original lines are set by handicappers. The line changes based on bets placed. The target is to create a spread where there is an equal chance and hence equal betting on both sides of the bet. Bookies don’t want to care who wins. They make their money on the vig.
