Some compulsive gamblers can resort to stealing from others to fund their gambling addiction. This can range from small dollar theft to moderate dollar embezzlement schemes to high dollar Bernie Madoff style cons. The son of a former boss of mine stole money from his customers by creating a fake investment pool that funded his gambling addiction. He stole millions from his clients. He is serving 30 years and will probably die in prison because of his age.
Here are some other crimes that also happen:
Follow home robbery is another problem. A gambler wins big sum of money (a few hundred to a few thousand or more) and someone follows that person to their car, hotel room or home and robs them. This is very common where I live among card room poker players.
Certain kids of criminals prey on gamblers. Loan sharks are an example of such person. Drug dealers can try to use a casino to launder drug money. A card room where I live was nearly shut down for allowing this.
